Weight and Grip Size

Choosing the correct paddle weight and grip size is just as important as selecting the right material. These features affect comfort, control, and overall performance on the court.

Lightweight Paddles (Under 7.3 oz)

Lightweight paddles are easy to maneuver and allow for quick reactions during fast exchanges at the net. They are a good option for players who value control and speed. However, they may generate less power on shots.

Midweight Paddles (7.3–8.4 oz)

Midweight paddles provide a balance of power and control. They are the most popular choice among beginners because they perform well in a variety of situations and do not place excessive strain on the arm.

Heavyweight Paddles (Over 8.4 oz)

Heavyweight paddles generate more power with less effort. While this can be beneficial for strong shots, the additional weight may cause fatigue during longer games and can reduce maneuverability.

Small Grip (Around 4 inches)

A smaller grip allows for greater wrist movement and can help players generate spin. However, it may require a firmer hold on the paddle.

Medium Grip (4.25 inches)

Medium grips are the most common and work well for a wide variety of players. They provide a balance of comfort and control.

Large Grip (4.5 inches or larger)

Larger grips can feel more comfortable for players with bigger hands and may reduce hand strain. However, they can make the paddle slightly harder to maneuver.

Recommendations:

Most beginners will be comfortable using a midweight paddle with a medium-sized grip. This combination provides a good balance of power, control, comfort, and ease of use while players develop their skills and playing style.
